Vietnam, Mexico strengthen multi-faceted cooperation

This was stated byVietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Van Lang at aFebruary 22 meeting with Senator Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, SecretaryGeneral of the Mexican Labour Party (PT) in Mexico City .

Lang, who is also Head of the Management Board of Hoa Lac High-TechPark, led a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology(MoST) to Mexico from February 20-22.

Duringthe meeting, Senator Anaya briefed his guest on the development ofNational Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the largest in LatinAmerica , and the scientific-technological sector. He pointed out thepotential for cooperation between the MoST and UNAM as well as betweeninstitutes from both countries.

He also confirmed the PT’s support for Vietnam ’s scientific and technological development.

In term of agriculture, the senator said that Mexico had a lot ofexperience of growing avocado trees, noting this could be a new area forthe two countries to cooperate in.

Both Lang andAnaya confirmed the fine relationship between the PT and the CommunistParty of Vietnam as well as between the two peoples and spoke highly ofthe prospects for bilateral cooperation in the future, particularly inagriculture and the scientific research and application of technologiesthat serve economic development.

Earlier, theVietnamese delegation made a fact-finding tour of the Milpa Alta areawhich specialising in growing cactus. They also met with the staff ofthe National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Animal Productionunder the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development,Fishing and Food and visited the UNAM’s Institute of Geophysics .

After these meetings, both expressed their delightat the similarities Vietnam and Mexico share and the potential forcooperation in areas such as agriculture, forestry and animalhusbandry.

They agreed to continue exchangingdelegations as well as their experiences and information onmanufacturing and exploiting the use of satellites and telescopes tostrengthen bilateral cooperation and boost economic development formutual benefit of the people of both countries.

On February 23, the delegation left Mexico for Cuba. /.

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

President Cuong warmly welcomed King Philippe and a high-ranking delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium on their first state visit to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973, affirming that the trip is an important historical milestone, opening up a new page for the friendly relations between the two countries.
