Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam gained encouraging achievements at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in Brazil on August 5-18, heard a review meeting in Hanoi on December 11.
The country grabbed one bronze medal for the first time in its five years of participation in the event, along with eight vocational skills certificates of excellence.
The Vietnamese candidates competed in 13 skills comprising of welding, IT software solutions, carpentry and plumbing, besides electro-mechanics, web designing, automobile technology and CNC (numerically controlled computer), as well as machine-operating, moulding, plastic-moulding techniques and mechanical engineering design-CAD, along with brick-laying.
The 43rd WorldSkills Competition (WSC) drew nearly 1,200 contestants from 59 countries and territories to compete in 50 skills relating to construction industry, art creativity and fashion, information technology and communication, manufacturing, individual and social services, logistics and transport.
Vietnam started participating in the biennial competition in 2007 and earned seven outstanding skills certificates in the 2011 and 2013 events.
The 44th WSC will be held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc granted third-class Labour Order to Nguyen Duy Thanh who brought home a bronze medal at the 43rd WSC.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs presented the Government’s certificates of merit to 13 outstanding individuals and campaign medals to six foreign investors who supported Vietnamese candidates in the event.-VNA
