Vietnam, RoK cooperate in traditional medicine research

The Institute of Oriental Medicine of the Republic of Korea (RoK) said on November 29 that it has opened a traditional medicine research centre in Hanoi, focusing on studying clinical signs and oriental medicine resources.
Seoul (VNA) – The Institute of Oriental Medicine of the Republicof Korea (RoK) said on November 29 that it has opened a traditional medicineresearch centre in Hanoi, focusing on studying clinical signs and orientalmedicine resources.

Located at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine, the Korea-VietnamTraditional Medicine Research Centre will apply technologies of defining genesof oriental medicine resources owned by the Korean institute to build atraditional medicine management system in Vietnam.

It will conduct clinical research and compare disease prevention and treatmentmethods using traditional medicine the two nations to apply the best ones intreating chronic diseases and those of the elderly.

Over the past time, the Korean institute has cooperated with the Vietnamese hospitalin carrying out joint studies in the physical field.

Kim Jong-yeol, head of the institute, the two sides will collaborate in doingbasic research and applying the institute’s clinical experience in treatment,thus contributing to developing the traditional medicine in both countries.-VNA

Nipah virus infection is designated a Group A infectious disease, with reported fatality rates of between 40 and 75%. At present, no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment is available. The virus is mainly transmitted from animals to humans or through contact with contaminated food and objects, and can also spread between people via direct contact with bodily fluids and secretions of infected patients.
