Vietnam, Russia discuss celebrations of bilateral ties

Moscow (VNA) – Deputy Prime MinisterTrinh Dinh Dung had working sessions with representatives of Vietnamese andRussian ministries and departments in Moscow on May 23 to discuss activities tocelebrate the Vietnam Year in Russia and vice versa.

He welcomed trade and investment promotionactivities to be held in the two countries, including the Vietnam-Russiainternational exhibition and the Vietnam-Russia business forum, which willexpand bilateral cooperation at national and local levels.

The economic, trade and investment relationsbetween Vietnam and Russia are being built based on the traditional closefriendship and should be strengthened, he said.

Chairman of the board of directors of eventorganisations David Vartamov presented some typical activities of the RussianYear in Vietnam, focusing on the Vietnam-Russia industry exhibition 2019 andthe Vietnam-Russia business forum which are scheduled to be held in Hanoi atthe year’s end.

The exhibition in 2017 attracted 123 businessesrepresenting 25 Russian localities, he said, adding that this year’s event isexpected to receive support from the two countries’ governments to lure moreenterprises from Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Earlier on May 22, Deputy PM Dung met hisRussian counterpart Maxim Akimov to review the implementation of theVietnam-Russia inter-governmental committee’s activities since the 21st sessionin October 2018. 

In 2018, two-way trade reached 4.57 billion USD,a year-on-year rise of 28.6 percent. Vietnam and Russia aim to increase thebilateral trade to 10 billion USD by 2020.

The two Deputy PMs agreed to make it easier forVietnamese and Russian businesses to cooperate, especially in fields of theirstrengths.

They pledged to strengthen coordination toorganise activities within the framework of the Vietnam Year in Russia and theRussia Year in Vietnam in celebration of the 25th anniversary of signing thetreaty on basic principles for the bilateral friendship (1994-2019) and the70th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties. Vietnam, Italy agree on new cooperation directions

Both sides agreed to facilitate market access for key export products, and prioritise cooperation in investment attraction and technology transfer in emerging and strategic sectors such as new energy, renewable energy and automation, while continuing to strengthen existing cooperation in textiles, footwear, climate change response, electronics, culture and tourism.
