Peacekeeping officers of Vietnam (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – A delegationof the Engineering Troops of the Russian Armed Forces led by the force’scommander Lt. Gen. Yuri Stavitsky visited and held a working session with theVietnam Peacekeeping Department (VPD) in Hanoi on October 10.
The visit is made under theMemorandum of Understanding between the Defence Ministries of Vietnam andRussia signed last November on cooperation in UN peacekeeping activities, andaims at enhancing collaboration between the military engineering forces of thetwo countries.
Speaking at the working sessionwith the Russian guests, Director of the VPD Colonel Hoang Kim Phung stressedthat joining UN peacekeeping activities is a major policy of the Party, State andDefence Ministry of Vietnam.
On the occasion, the two sides agreedto continue the exchange of all-level delegations in the field of peacekeepingmilitary engineering, and to propose integrating this content into the bilateraldefence dialogue.
The two sides also reachedconsensus on the sharing of information, experience and professional skillsregarding peacekeeping missions through joint training courses, seminars andexchange of experts. In the immediate future, when one side organizes internationaltraining courses on peacekeeping, it will invite the other side to attend.
In addition, Vietnam and Russiawill coordinate activities at multilateral forums, consult each other on issuesrelated to UN peacekeeping missions and intensify cooperation in militaryengineering in the time ahead.
Colonel Phung asked that Russia,as a permanent member in the UN Security Council, will advise Vietnam indeploying its peacekeeping military engineering unit to a suitable peacekeepingmission.
Lt. Gen. Yuri Stavitsky praisedVietnam’s performance in peacekeeping activities and affirmed that Russia’sengineering troops force is willing to share its experience with Vietnam andjoin hands in training.
He also voiced support ofVietnam’s proposals and initiatives in the field.-VNA
