Vietnam win two golds, four silvers at Int’l Mathematical Olympiad

All six Vietnamese high school students competing in the 2019 International Mathematical Olympiad brought home medals, with two golds and four silvers.

Hanoi (VNA) – All six Vietnamese high school studentscompeting in the 2019 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) brought homemedals, with two golds and four silvers, according to Dr. Le Anh Vinh, head ofthe team to the competition.

The results placed Vietnam to the seventh position out of110 teams participating in the 2019 IMO (the 60th of its kind).

The gold medals belonged to Nguyen Nguyen from the HighSchool for the Gifted under the Ho Chi Minh City National University, and NguyenThuan Hung from Tran Phu High School for the Gifted in Hai Phong city.

The silver medalists are Vuong Tung Duong from Vinh PhucHigh School for the Gifted; Phan Minh Duoc from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High Schoolfor the Gifted, Nguyen Kha Nhat Long from Hanoi University of Science High School for theGifted under the Hanoi National University; and Vu Duc Vinh from Phan Boi ChauHigh School for the Gifted in Nghe An province.

This year, China and the US shared the top place at thecompetition.

Vietnam first participated in the IMO in 1974, becoming thefirst Asian country to compete in the contest. It ranked third three times in1999, 2007 and 2017.

In 2004, the Vietnamese team achieved the highest result, baggingfour gold and two silver medals.-VNA

19 localities eradicate substandard houses

Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar

On April 8, 28, and May 14, three groups comprising a total of 471 citizens safely returned to Vietnam.
