Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An has highlighted the significance of the state visit by Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, voicing her belief for the strengthened development of the two countries’ relations.

The official – who is also a member of the Cambodian People’s Party Standing Committee, Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, and head of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association – gave an interview to the Vietnam News Agency on the threshold of the visit from February 25 to 26.

She said the trip is critical to friendship and cooperation between the two states, noting that the Cambodian Government, led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, has always paid attention to the reinforcement of bilateral ties in all aspects. While trade links have been developing vigorously, cooperation in security as well as experience sharing on educational and social issues have also been increasingly strengthened.

To help enhance the traditional friendship, the Cambodian and Vietnamese governments have joined hands in building many friendship monuments. The construction of these memorials began when Vietnam’s volunteer soldiers finished their support for the Cambodian military to defeat the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

The two countries have inaugurated multiple friendship monuments across Cambodia as a way to remember Vietnam’s assistance to the Cambodian people, the Deputy PM said, adding that this laid the foundation for the latter country’s dynamic achievements to this day.

She expressed her belief in the continuous expansion of bilateral links in the time ahead under the leadership of PM Hun Sen. Aside from existing partnerships, the two sides will keep expanding connections between their ministries, sectors, and at all levels.

In particular, the Cambodian Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association have regularly met and exchanged experience with their Vietnamese counterparts, she noted.

Men Sam An said she believes the state visit by General Secretary and President Trong will be a success, further contributing to the time-tested friendship and cooperation between the two nations. –VNA
