Beijing (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh on March 12 delivered a keynote address at an academic seminar entitled “Ambassador’s Dialogue”, jointly organised by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies and the School of Global Leadership under Renmin University of China in Beijing.
The seminar attracted a wide range of experts, scholars, business association representatives and media organisations, with participants attending both in person and via online links connecting three university sites in Zhejiang province.
Addressing the theme “Strengthening Vietnam–China friendship”, Ambassador Binh reviewed the steady development of bilateral relations and highlighted notable cooperation achievements in recent years, particularly following the state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping. He emphasised progress across multiple areas under the “six major orientations", including enhanced political trust, more substantive defence and security cooperation, deeper practical collaboration, stronger social foundations, closer multilateral coordination, and better management and settlement of differences.
The ambassador also briefed Chinese scholars and students on key outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, outlining the country’s strategic development priorities in the new era. These include safeguarding national defence and security; pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-relaince, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralisation and diversification of external relations; promoting rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth; developing science, technology and innovation; and further upholding Vietnamese cultural and human values.
Highlighting Vietnam’s recent socio-economic progress, Binh pointed to positive growth momentum, deeper international integration and continued improvements in the investment environment, underscoring expanding opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
Chinese experts and scholars expressed optimism about the future of Vietnam–China ties, noting significant potential and broad scope for cooperation despite an increasingly complex regional and global environment. They cited shared advantages such as social stability, progressive development thinking, safe environments and complementary strengths in socio-economic development, describing both countries as successful development models within the socialist system. These factors, they said, will help sustain stable relations and generate further positive outcomes in bilateral cooperation.
Earlier, Ambassador Binh met with Renmin University of China President Ma Huaide, with both sides highlighting the role of higher education and research institutions in fostering mutual understanding and people-to-people friendship. They agreed to expand cooperation in research, training and academic exchanges between Renmin University and Vietnamese educational institutions in the coming period./.
