Vietnamese, Cambodian NA leaders meet on sidelines of AIPA 40

– Chairwoman of theNational Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with President of the Cambodian NationalAssembly Samdech Heng Samrin on the sidelines of the 40th General Assembly ofthe ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 40) in Bangkok on August 26.

The Vietnamese top legislator expressed her hope that the close and effectivecooperation between the two legislatures will contribute to enhancing theVietnam-Cambodia relationship.

The two leaders highlighted the effective and result-oriented cooperationbetween the NAs across spheres, as well as their mutual support at regional andinternational inter-parliamentary forums, contributing to promoting cooperationand reaching common perception in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) and AIPA.

Heng Samrin said the Cambodian Senate and NA stand ready to back Vietnam’s AIPAChair in 2020.

On this occasion, he thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for savingCambodians from the genocidal regime as well as supporting the country duringthe national reconstruction.

NA Chairwoman Ngan said she wants Heng Samrin and the National Assembly tocreate favourable conditions for the organisation of exchanges betweenparliamentarians of the two countries in 2019 and 2020.

Lauding joint efforts in fulfilling 84 percent of border demarcation and markerplanting, she urged the two sides to soon complete the remainder, contributingto building a shared border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. NA greenlights investment policy of Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong rail project

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.

NA deputies to approve several resolutions, laws on February 19

The deputies will pass a resolution addressing issues related to the streamlining of the political system’s organisational apparatus, a resolution on supplementation to the 2025 socio-economic development plan with a growth target of at least 8%, and another on pilot policies to remove barriers in science-technology research and innovation activities.
