Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Caracas, Venezuela, on September 2 to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and the National Day of Vietnam (September 2).

The event was jointly organised by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the Caracas municipal government, and the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela.

On behalf of PSUV President Nicolas Maduro, Politburo member and Vice President of PSUV in charge of external relations Tania Díaz extended warm congratulations to the Party, State, Government, and people of Vietnam. She affirmed that the great victory of the August Revolution - an embodiment of revolutionary heroism and the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people - will forever be a beacon for nations striving for independence.

Díaz expressed her admiration for Vietnam, a country she has long respected even without having visited. She noted that the live broadcast by TELESUR of Vietnam’s 80th anniversary parade and celebration allowed her, as well as the Venezuelan people and progressive movements across Latin America, to feel the spirit, strength, and resilience of the Vietnamese nation.

In his remarks, Nahum Fernández, Politburo member and Vice President of PSUV in charge of mass mobilisation, said he holds deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam’s heroic struggle against colonialists and imperialists.

He stressed that the struggle for national liberation under Ho Chi Minh’s leadership not only secured Vietnam’s rightful place on the world map but also inspired oppressed peoples worldwide to rise up, break the chains of slavery, and win independence.

The official added that President Ho Chi Minh was not only an outstanding leader but also a brilliant military strategist who built and trained the Vietnam People’s Army into an invincible force with historic victories that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe.”

He underlined the historic significance of the August Revolution and the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, affirming that the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh was the decisive factor behind all national victories.

The same day, the Embassy of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, laid a wreath at the National Pantheon in tribute to national hero Simón Bolívar.

On the occasion, PSUV President and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also extended a congratulatory message to Vietnam, in which he expressed his profound admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam. Vietnam’s history is an invaluable school for revolutionaries fighting for freedom, peace, and justice, he wrote.
