- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong discussed bilateral ties and emerging global and regional issues in their phone talks on December 18.

PM Chinh expressed his pleasure at talking on the phone with PM Wong shortly after their in-person meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in November. He praised their regular meetings and calls, which have facilitated timely consultations, effective responses to challenges, and opportunities to sustain economic growth while contributing to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s unity. - Vietnam consistently places the highest priority on its special relationship with Laos and will continue to support the neighbouring country in building an independent, self-reliant economy and developing high-quality human resources, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed.

Receiving Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who is in Vietnam to co-chair the 12th political consultation at the foreign ministerial level on December 18, the PM proposed that the two sides further strengthen economic connectivity, coordinate closely and share development experience for the tangible benefit of the two peoples. - Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and his Lao counterpart Thongsavanh Phomvihane co-chaired the 12th Vietnam–Laos political consultation at the foreign ministerial level in Hanoi on December 18 morning, as part of the Lao official’s four-day visit to Vietnam.

During the consultation, in a spirit of special trust, the two officials reviewed recent cooperation between the two Parties, countries and foreign ministries. They also discussed future cooperation orientations and held in-depth exchanges on regional and international issues of common concern. Read full story

- On December 19, as part of a nationwide programme of groundbreaking ceremonies, inaugurations and technical openings for 234 key projects held to mark the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Sun Group is scheduled to start construction of five large-scale projects across Vietnam’s three regions, with total investment of nearly 5.7 billion USD.

Phase I of the Phu Quoc Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, with total investment of approximately 342 million USD, is a strategic transport infrastructure development playing an important role in the orientation to develop Phu Quoc into an international tourism, service and events hub. The project will also make Phu Quoc the first locality in Vietnam to operate an urban LRT system. Read full story

- The World Bank has recently published a report titled 'Living or Leaving: Life in the Mekong Delta Region of Vietnam', shining a spotlight on the region's urgent challenges related to poverty, climate risks, demographic change and the shifting landscape of economic opportunities.

- Vietnam scored their third goal in extra time after they leveled 2-2 with hosts Thailand in the main 90 minutes of the 33rd SEA Games men's football final to secure the title.

This was the third time in the last four SEA Games men's football final that Vietnam have reached. In the 2019 tournament in the Philippines and the 2022 tournament at home, the team won both of them after defeating Indonesia 3-0 and Thailand 1-0. Read full story

- The competitions on December 18 afternoon at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand brought strong emotions for the Vietnamese delegation, highlighted by a historic gold medal from the women’s futsal team and a long-awaited victory by the men’s sepak takraw squad after more than 20 years.

In the women’s futsal final, Vietnam delivered a dominant performance, defeating Indonesia 5-0 to claim their first-ever SEA Games gold medal after finishing runners-up in five consecutive editions. This was also Vietnam’s 72nd gold medal at SEA Games 33./.Read full story
