- Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised on December 16 that policies and benefits for those with meritorious service to the revolution must be implemented fully, promptly, and efficiently, with no tolerance for shifting responsibility, stressing the need for a strong commitment to resolve any lingering issues concerning them.

Chairing a working session with representatives of central agencies, ministries and sectors to review the implementation of policies and mechanisms for those who rendered service to the revolution, as well as efforts to search for, recover and identify martyrs’ remains, the Party chief stressed that in recent years, thanks to the concerted efforts, these work has recorded many commendable results. - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on December 16 chaired a meeting with representatives of the NA’s agencies and the NA Office, during which he stressed that discipline, order and strict compliance must be upheld to improve the quality and effectiveness of parliamentary activities.

Commending their efforts and achievements in 2025, Chairman Man clearly outlined key tasks for the time ahead and requested the prompt finalisation and promulgation of newly adopted laws and resolutions, proactive reviews to ensure consistency with new guidelines, and thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 16 chaired the 26th meeting of the National Steering Committee for Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, underscoring that Secretaries of Party Committees and Chairpersons of People’s Committees at all levels must bear direct responsibility if IUU fishing violations occur in their localities.

The meeting, held at the Government headquarters and connected online with 21 coastal provinces and centrally-run cities, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, leaders of ministries, central agencies, and coastal localities. It was a regular weekly session of the steering committee aimed at reviewing progress and defining next steps to eradicate IUU fishing and promote sustainable fisheries development. Read full story

- The Central Steering Committee 35, which is tasked with protecting the Party’s ideological foundation and fighting wrongful and hostile views, held a conference in Hanoi on December 16 to review its performance in 2025 and outline key tasks for 2026.

Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Japan’s Tochigi Governor

PM suggests acceleration of Laos–Vietnam University establishment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the two sides should strengthen the teaching and learning of Vietnamese and Lao in both countries, including introducing Vietnamese as an optional foreign language in Lao schools, while continuing academic exchanges and programmes on tradition education to nurture the special bilateral relationship, he said.
