At the event, Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong recalled Vietnam’ssocio-economic achievements since it won independence 73 years ago.
He thanked the Japanese Government and people for giving support to Vietnam,especially in economics, and wished that the development of the Vietnamese communityin Japan, with 300,000 people, will make contributions to socio-economic growthin both countries.
Japanese Minister of Justice Yoko Kamikawa hailed Vietnam’s recent development,hoping that friendship between Vietnam and Japan will be enhanced for peace andprosperity in the two countries as well as in the region.
Meanwhile in Australia, the event saw the attendance of Governor-General ofAustralia Peter Cosgrove and his spouse, high-level officials of the AustralianGovernment, parliamentarians, experts, and representatives from Vietnameserepresentative offices and the Vietnamese community.
Celebration in Australia (Photo: VNA) Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam highlighted Vietnam’s impressive achievements attainedfrom its reforms and efforts in promoting global integration.
The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow 6.8 percent thisyear, the fastest pace in the past decade, making Vietnam become an attractivedestination for both domestic and foreign investors.
He said that Vietnam could not attain such achievements without cooperation andsupport from foreign countries and partners, including Australia.
The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia has been built based onsound collaboration in the fields of defence, terrorism prevention, trade andinvestment, education, and science-technology, he said.
Also, he stressed that the community with 300,000 Vietnamese-Australians and30,000 Vietnamese students pursuing study in Australia has made significantcontributions to the robust development in the bilateral ties.
2018 is a special year as it witnessed various high-level visits of leadersfrom both sides, he said, adding that those help enhance mutual understanding,and strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
For his part, Governor-General of Australia Peter Cosgrove expressed hisdelight at the sound cooperation with Vietnam, with two-way trade reaching 13billion AUD, adding that the people-to-people exchange also contributes significantlyto the strong bonds.-VNA
