Vietnam’s naval officers attend int’l maritime seminar in India

A delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) on February 27 attended an international maritime seminar that was part of the multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2022 in India, the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) daily reported.

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of the VietnamPeople’s Navy (VPN) on February 27 attended an international maritime seminar thatwas part of the multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2022 in India, the Quan doiNhan dan (People’s Army) daily reported.

Theevent was attended ambassadors and naval representatives of the 39 countriesparticipating in MILAN 2022. Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau andthe VPN delegation led by Colonel Nguyen Van Ngan, Deputy Chief of the Staff ofNaval Region 4, took part in the workshop.

In hisopening remarks, Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral Hari Kumar said the delegates’presence at the event was a chance for the navies to exchange viewpoints onissues on common concern, discuss response measures to the emerging challenges,especially those in the Indo-Pacific, promote cooperation, and enhancemutual understanding, thereby helping strengthen trust.

No countriescan singlehandedly deal with the increasing issues and challenges related tonavigation security and safety such as terrorism, piracy, weapon smuggling, andmarine pollution. Given this, it is necessary to boost coordination and cooperationamong navies for the sake of stability, development, and cooperation, he noted.

Duringthe two-day seminar with four panel discussions, speakers shared viewpointsabout several issues, including the changes in sea-related competition anddisputes, capacity building towards common navigation security, surmountingnon-traditional maritime challenges through cooperation, and maritimetransparency.

They alsotalked about the competition and the likelihood of conflict in theIndo-Pacific, stressing the need for stronger cooperation for common interests,especially the importance of respecting international law and the 1982 UnitedNations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

They heldthat navies should reinforce ties since their countries have many sharedinterests at sea and also face common challenges relevant to navigationsecurity and safety.

The Vietnamesedelegation’s presence at MILAN 2022 demonstrated the country’s sense ofresponsibility as an active member who is ready to cooperate with others forcommon interests as well as for maritime stability, safety, and security in theregion and the world at large, according to Quan doi Nhan dan./.

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
