A seminar on Vietnam as an important industrial and trade partner ofFrance in Southeast Asia, was held in Paris on May 16.
Addressing the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister of Industry andTrade Nguyen Thanh Bien spoke of Vietnam ’s orientation for tradedevelopment from now until 2020 and the country’s import-export strategyfor the 2011-2020 period, which sets an export revenue of around 500billion USD by 2020.
Participants focused theirdiscussion on Vietnam ’s trade and investment policies, the developmentof economic and investment cooperation between Vietnam and France ,and investment opportunities and legal environment in Vietnam .
On the sidelines of the seminar, Deputy Minister Bien said France andthe European Union have an important role and position in trade andeconomic relations between Vietnam and other countries. Two-waytrade between Vietnam and the EU continue to the increase, despitethe impacts of public debt in Eurozone countries and global economic andfinancial downturn.
Vietnam ’s export value toFrance exceeded 500 million USD in the first four months of the yearand is expected to be over 1.8 billion USD this year.
In the future, France is expected to continue its role as a key market for Vietnam ’s export staples.-VNA
