Viettel establishes cyber security company

Hanoi (VNA) – The Viettel Cyber Security Company, asubsidiary of the military-run industry and telecom group Viettel, made debutin Hanoi on April 12.

This company, set up on the basis of the Viettelcyber security centre, is tasked with researching and developing informationsecurity solutions, products and services.

It is currently in charge of ensuringinformation security for the telecom network of Viettel in 11 markets aroundthe world. It also provides cyber security solutions, detect loopholes, anddeal with information security incidents at ministries, localities andbusinesses.

Fifty-four enterprises were granted businesslicences to trade and provide network security services in the first quarter of2019.

According to the Authority of InformationSecurity under the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam recorded620 cyber attacks in the three months, down some 50 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, an assessment conducted by BkavCorporation last December revealed that the damage caused by computer virusesto Vietnamese users reached a record of 14.9 trillion VND (over 642 millionUSD) in 2018, 21 percent higher than the previous year’s figure.-VNA
