Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU Hanoi) and China’s Tsinghua University are set to deepen their academic ties with the signing of a student exchange agreement, building on their memorandum of understanding (MoU) on comprehensive cooperation signed in August 2024.
The deal offers tuition-free exchanges with credits fully recognised, plus housing, healthcare, and language support, fostering a multicultural experience that opens doors to new friendship and career prospects.
Looking ahead, the partnership will introduce executive management training courses tailored for Vietnamese business leaders and Government officials. Additionally, research collaboration will expand into cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, and new materials.
The details of this partnership were unveiled at an international workshop in Hanoi in March 1, where academics, researchers, and education managers from both countries mapped out the future of Vietnam-China higher education in the 21st century’s digital intelligence era.
The event served as a vibrant academic forum, delving into how AI can transform higher education, and exploring solutions to ensure the sustainable and effective development of higher education systems in the modern era.

In his speech, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theory Council and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) Nguyen Xuan Thang said sharing expertise and experiences in education, scientific research, and innovation, along with practical and feasible solutions, will foster development and cooperation between higher education institutions of Vietnam and China in these fields, particularly in the digital age.
VNU Hanoi President Le Quan hailed the VNU Hanoi and Tsinghua University as leading educational establishments in their countries, excelling in training and scientific research, especially in information technology, artificial intelligence, and education management. The synergy between the VNU Hanoi’s multidisciplinary strengths and the Tsinghua University’s renowned engineering and technology prowess provides an ideal foundation for cooperation.

In his view, the establishment of a sustainable partnership between the two sides not only advances scientific progress in AI but also creates practical application opportunities and sets the stage for joint initiatives. Through academic exchanges, joint conferences and training courses, and interdisciplinary AI research, they aim to achieve comprehensive development, enhance education quality, and train highly skilled workforce.
Professor Qiu Yong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chairman of the Tsinghua University Council, delivered a keynote speech on the opportunities and challenges of higher education in the digital age.
The event provided in-depth and diverse perspectives, with distinguished speakers highlighting the collaboration potential between the two universities in key fields. Notably, in AI and data science, they can jointly study and develop cutting-edge AI models, from large language models to applications in health care, education, and environmental science.
Participants made several proposals, including joint AI studies, curriculum optimisation, personalised learning methods, specialised workshops, and internship exchanges to give students real-world experience./.
