The Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco) and the PJI-LFGC Vietnam will kick off the nation’s first exhaust gas retrieving and using project in Nam Son rubbish site on June 3 in response to the World Environment Day (June 5).

The project is expected to help minimise exhaust gases and reek caused by rubbish, especially methane, the exhaustion of which leads to the greenhouse effect.

A exhaust gas retrieving and burning system will be built during the first phase of the project (2009-2010). The project expects to generate power in the second phase - 2010-2015.

General Director of Urenco Chu Van Chung said 10 percent of revenue from selling Carbon Emission Reduction (CER) credits and power generated, equal to 2.29 million USD, will be used for the capital city’s environmental protection and offering job opportunities for local people.
