Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries reported yesterday by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), as Chair of the Asia Pacific Group (APG) at the UN for April, has presided over a meeting summarising the activities of the group last month.

Attending the meeting were representatives of delegations from more than 50 APG member countries. Read full story

- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz has extended congratulations to the Vietnamese Government and people on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2024).

In a message posted on social media on April 30, he emphasised that this event paved the way for peace and unity in Vietnam. Read full story

- Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong highlighted Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in economic development and population affairs to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) while addressing the 57th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD57) of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 1 signed a dispatch demanding prompt actions to deal with the consequences of a serious workplace accident that happened in a wood factory in southern province of Dong Nai earlier the same day, as well as to support victims.

The dispatch was sent to the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and chairpersons of the people's committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities, especially Dong Nai. Read full story

- The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela on April 30 held a ceremony to mark the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification and a photo exhibition on bilateral relations in collaboration with the Vietnam News Agency.
 
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Vu Trung My noted that Vietnam’s victory on April 30, 1975 is a great achievement in the cause of national liberation led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh. Read full story

- Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City saw more than 200,000 passengers on May 1 as people returned to the cities after the Reunification Day and May Day holiday.

According to a representative of Noi Bai airport, 538 flights (303 domestic and 235 international) landed carrying approximately 94,000 passengers in total, which was the most traffic during the five-day holiday. Read full story

- Vietnamese Ambassador to India, Nepal and Bhutan Nguyen Thanh Hai attended the 3rd Nepal Investment Summit on April 28-29 at the invitation of Nepali Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun.

- More than 263,160 Vietnamese people visited Laos in the first three months of this year, becoming the second biggest source of foreign visitors to the country during the period, according to the Tourism Development Department of Lao Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism.

Laos welcomed over 1 million foreign tourists in the reviewed period, it said, adding that visitors from Thailand topped the list with 337,689. China, the Republic of Korea and China ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Read full story

- Digital transformation is considered a “key” to help Vietnamese garment and textile enterprises expand while meeting sustainable development, heard a recent conference held in Ho Cho Minh City.

-  As a major industrial hub, contributing about 10% of the country's total export value, the southern province of Binh Duong targets becoming a logistics locomotive of the southern region of Vietnam.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hoa, President of the Vietnam Logistics Research Institute, with its existing infrastructure and industrial parks, Binh Duong has strong potential to become a logistics hub of the region. Read full story

- Hanoi welcomed 737,900 tourists during the National Reunification and May Day holidays, from April 27 to May 1, up 4% year-on-year, the municipal Department of Tourism said.

The city earned 2.5 trillion VND (98.63 million USD) in tourism revenue on the five-day holidays, representing a year-on-year rise of 10%./. Read full story
