Hanoi (VNA) - Regarding the fight against corruption, wastefulness, and other negative practices, during the 2021–2026 tenure, the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) provided 1,749 reports and documents to competent agencies to serve inspection, investigation, and supervision activities, nearly four times higher than in the previous tenure.
It also transferred 17 cases to the Investigation Police Agency for clarification of potential legal violations and directly audited two cases showing signs of corruption under the direction of the Central Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption, Wastefulness and Negative Phenomena.
Presenting the SAV’s performance report for the 2021–2026 tenure to the 15th NA on the October 20, State Auditor General Ngo Van Tuan stated that the sector has implemented numerous measures to fundamentally address overlaps and duplication with inspection and supervision agencies. It has also made significant innovations in auditing approaches, shifting its focus from merely “inspection and detection” to “analysis, forecasting, and policy improvement recommendations,” while concentrating on areas with high risks of revenue loss and fraud.
Promoting technological applications in auditing, the SAV has introduced data analytics and piloted the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support audit activities. It has also applied remote sensing technology in auditing natural resources and minerals, and hired consultants to assess project quality during investment audits.
Summarising audit outcomes for the 2021–2026 tenure, Tuan reported that, as of September 30, the SAV had proposed financial settlements totalling over 254 trillion VND (9.64 billion USD) and more than 125 million USD. It also recommended the cancellation, amendment, supplementation, or issuance of new provisions for 938 legal and administrative documents found to be inconsistent with national regulations or practical realities, an increase of 19.3% compared to the 2016–2021 tenure.
The average implementation rate of financial handling recommendations reached 90%, significantly higher than the previous tenure’s 74.7%.
For the next tenure, the SAV plans to focus on perfecting the legal framework in line with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 66-NQ/TW on reforming law-making and enforcement to meet national development needs in the new era. This will serve as a foundation for renewing organisational structures and operational mechanisms, while enhancing human resource quality.
The sector will continue promoting digital transformation and technology application, and focus on auditing pressing issues of public concern highlighted by the NA, voters, and society./.
