The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged a loan of 1 billion USD for Vietnam to carry out its water development programme over the 2011-2020 period.

According to the Technical Infrastructure Department under the Ministry of Construction (MoC), ADB plans to lend the country 250 million USD in 2011 to fullfil projects included in the national programme to provide clean water supplies and prevent a loss of revenue until 2025 as well as grant 1.5 million USD for the programme’s technical assistance project.

The MoC said that the programme will focus on raising public awareness and the capacity of local authorities as well as improving management procedures for agencies that supply water. It will also draw up and introduce mechanisms to prevent the unnecessary loss of water.

The programme will be funded by the State budget, official development assistance (ODA), investment credits and capital from the agencies that supply water.

The MoC is working with other ministries and agencies to mobilise ODA from the ADB, the World Bank and other organisations to complete the programme./.
