The Asia Development Bank has unveiled a new 1 million USD project to assist Myanmar in the fight against AIDS, on the occasion of the World AIDS Day (December 5).
The Asia Development Bank has unveiled a new 1 million USD project toassist Myanmar in the fight against AIDS, on the occasion of theWorld AIDS Day (December 5).

The ADB said in a pressrelease on December 3 that the spread of HIV/AIDS and malaria infectionis increasing along with the economic and trade openness of Myanmar.

ADB Vice-President Stephen P. Groff said that theproject will be financed by the Cooperation Fund for Fighting HIV/AIDSin Asia and the Pacific, which is solely contributed by the Governmentof Sweden.

The project will hopefully showcase theeffectiveness of focused and strategic approaches to tackling theHIV/AIDS epidemic along the two economic corridors between Myanmar,Thailand and China. It will also enhance the access to and qualityof health services among key affected populations including labourmigrants.

HIV/AIDS remains a challenge in Asia and the Pacific region which is currently home to 5 million HIV infected people./. VNA

In the decree issued on February 25, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni ordered the establishment of three sites where genocide crimes occurred in the country, namely the former M-13 prison in Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu provinces, and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and the Choeung Ek Genocide Centre in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia criminalises denial of Pol Pot crimes
