Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s junta have announced an extension of the temporary ceasefire until May 31, aimed at supporting post-earthquake recovery and resettlement efforts.
The extension, which came into effect on May 6, is intended to facilitate national reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the recent earthquake, promote the well-being of citizens, and contribute to long-term peace and stability, according to an official statement.
The junta had initially declared a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to 30 to accelerate rescue and resettlement operations following the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck on March 28.
Under the extended ceasefire, armed groups are instructed not to disrupt public movement, attack civilians or security forces, damage property, or conduct military operations, recruitment, or territorial expansion, said the statement.
The military also warned it will take necessary protective measures to ensure public safety if any violations occur during the ceasefire period./.
