Havana (VNA) - Cuban state broadcaster Cubavisión Internacional recently aired a nearly 30-minute feature praising Vietnam’s impressive economic development, calling it one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies.
The programme, entitled “Vietnam – Asia’s Economic Engine in 2025”, hailed Vietnam’s rise as the region’s second largest economy and its path toward a record-breaking export in 2025. This success, it noted, not only reinforces its geopolitical standing but also compels Western nations to take greater notice of the governance model led by the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Prof. Ruvislei González Sáez from the Cuban Centre of International Policy Research (CIPI) attributed Vietnam's sustained stability amid global turbulence to its strategic vision and commitment to a multilateral foreign policy. Vietnam has evolved from a struggling nation in the 1980s to a middle-income economy, with a clear ambition to achieve developed, high-income status by 2045.
A key to Vietnam's success, according to the professor, is its adaptability to global challenges. The country has skillfully navigated tariff barriers during the Trump administration by proactively diversifying its markets, increasing investment in the US, and expanding ties with Latin America to lessen reliance on any single partner.
The feature also touched on Vietnam - US relations, highlighting that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of normalisation of their diplomatic ties, a milestone that reflects deepening cooperation despite existing differences.
Cubavisión Internacional further pointed to Europe’s growing interest in Vietnam, with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s recent visit and new cooperation agreements signaling promising cooperation potential. Vietnam is becoming a key partner of Europe, not just economically but also geopolitically, it said.
With economic growth exceeding 7% in 2024, Vietnam has firmly established itself as a standout performer in the region. The broadcaster concluded that Vietnam exemplifies a remarkable transformation driven by steadfast leadership, a sustainable development strategy, and the ability to turn global challenges into opportunities.
One of Cuba’s most respected international media outlets, Cubavisión Internacional regularly analyses global economic and political affairs, often through the lens of developing nations. Its in-depth coverage of Vietnam reflects the growing influence of the Southeast Asian country on the world stage./.
