Jakarta (VNA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that harmony among religious communities is a vital foundation supporting the capital’s ambition to become a global city.
Speaking in Jakarta on May 4, Anung highlighted the city's diversity in identity, ethnicity, and culture, stressing the need for residents to collectively cultivate an atmosphere that embraces religious pluralism.
"This inclusivity is key to our global city vision. Jakarta must be a welcoming host for people of all faiths, a principle we must consistently uphold together," Anung was quoted by Antaranews as saying.
Governor Anung reaffirmed the Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to supporting religious activities.
Beyond event support, the provincial government also hosts interfaith dialogues at City Hall.
"We warmly welcome any religious organization seeking dialogue. These discussions often lead to support with permits, administrative aid, and even grants for religious endeavors," he explained.
Anung underscored his desire for Jakarta to be recognised as a city where tolerance is a lived experience for all residents.
He expressed his hope that Jakarta's diverse faith communities would continue to foster peace and harmony, especially as the city approaches its 500th anniversary./.
