Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim carried out an inspection on the preparations for the 46th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on May 6.
Also present to inspect the preparations were Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Anwar also visited the ASEAN-Malaysia 2025 Chairmanship Security Training Centre.
In preparation for the 46th ASEAN Summit, the National Security Council has held a training session for a Crisis Management Team at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with the participation of relevant security agencies, to strengthen defence, national security and public order.
The training programme consists of three phases, with the final phase involving practical drills and emergency response simulations tailored to summit scenarios.
The 46th ASEAN Summit, which will be held on May 26 and 27, will bring together 10 leaders of ASEAN member states to discuss regional issues and foster economic cooperation as well as champion the principles of inclusiveness and sustainability.
Malaysia took over the ASEAN Chairmanship on January 1, 2025 from Laos with the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability, reflecting the country's aspiration to build a united and prosperous ASEAN. This is the fifth time Malaysia assumes ASEAN Chairmanship after holding the position in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.
Founded on August 8, 1967, ASEAN comprises 10 member states in Southeast Asia, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam./.
