Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary To Lam has demanded Military Region 9 to build revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern forces, with a strong political foundation, enhanced training quality and combat proficiency, mastery of modern weapons, and absolute readiness to fight and win in all conditions, every situation, and amid new forms of warfare.

Addressing a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the armed forces of Military Region 9 (December 10, 1945 – 2025) on December 8 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, the Party chief stated that in the current era of development which gives new challenges and missions, it is crucial to boost soldiers’ scientific and technological proficiency, focusing on realistic training, rigorous exercises, and practical scenarios to ensure combat readiness and victory in all situations. – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on December 8 co-chaired the inauguration ceremony of Tan Nam (Tay Ninh province, Vietnam) – Meun Chey (Prey Veng province, Cambodia) international border gate pair.

The border gate pair is located about 150 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City and about 120 km from Cambodia’s capital of Phnom Penh. The inauguration of this border gate pair is of significant importance, contributing to strengthening the fine neighbourhood, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet highlighted the importance of maintaining a shared borderline of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development during their talks on December 8, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Tan Nam (Tay Ninh, Vietnam) – Meun Chey (Prey Veng, Cambodia) international border gate pair.

The two PMs, co-chairing the inauguration ceremony the same day, noted that over the past year, the two Governments have coordinated closely in implementing cooperation plans and achieved substantive results across various fields, particularly in politics – foreign affairs, defence – security, economy – trade – investment, border affairs, as well as education – training, health, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. – Vietnam welcomed 19.15 million international visitors in the first 11 months of 2025, up 20.9% year-on-year and surpassing its pre-pandemic peak of more than 18 million arrivals, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).

The number of foreign tourist arrivals in November reached 1.98 million, an increase of 14.2% from October and 15.6% compared to the same month in 2024. It was the month with the third-highest figure this year, after January and March, both of which exceeded 2 million visitors. Read full story

– A favourable visa policy and effective stimulus programmes have helped Vietnam’s total retail sales and consumer service revenue grow 9.1% in the first 11 months of 2025, with tourism leading the way as travel earnings jumped by 19.9%.

According to newly-released data from the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam’s trade and services sector remained stable in November, with total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue estimated to equal to the figure in the previous month and up 7.1% year-on-year. Vietnamese, Lao police forces foster security cooperation

The two ministries reviewed the crime situation, social order and safety issues, and drug-related cases concerning both countries; evaluated the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 9, 2021, and other bilateral agreements, treaties, and cooperation plans; and discussed coordination in combating human trafficking, social-order crimes and drug offences along the Vietnam–Laos border.

Government convenes meeting to review 11-month situation

Despite numerous difficulties, thanks to efforts by the entire political system and all people under the leadership of the Party, headed by General Secretary To Lam, the socio-economic situation remains positive with better results recorded in most fields month over month and over the same period last year.

Legislature scrutinises specialised court model at int’l financial centre

Establishing a specialised court at the International Financial Center is necessary to institutionalise the Party’s policies and conclusions of the competent authorities. The court aims to provide a fast and effective mechanism for resolving disputes arising from business and investment activities at the centre.

PM pushes comprehensive financing for Mekong Delta climate response

Land subsidence, landslides, flooding, drought, and saltwater intrusion have directly affected the livelihoods and daily lives of people in the Mekong Delta that accounts for 12.8% of the country’s area and nearly 18% of its population, and contributes 95% of the nation’s rice exports, 60% of its aquatic exports, and 65% of its fruit exports.
