Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- French Senate President Gérard Larcher arrived in Hanoi on December 8 morning, beginning an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The visit, from December 8-9, is the first between the two countries’ legislative leaders after the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control. Read full story

- Along with the growing trend of integration in all fields, international defence cooperation has been a focus of the Party and State of Vietnam to strengthen trust between Vietnam and other countries, stated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the opening of the Vietnam international defence exhibition (Vietnam Defence 2022) in Hanoi on December 8.

PM Chinh said that the Vietnam Defence 2022 is a good chance for defence policymakers and defence industry firms to meet and seek partnership towards a world of peace, cooperation and prosperity. He welcomed the contributions of partners in the exhibition.Read full story

- The freshly-ended trip to Australia and New Zealand by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue helped strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of Vietnam and the two countries, contributing to promoting bilateral partnership in various fields as well as coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums, said Chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to attend the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit and visit Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium from December 9  to 15 is expected to promote and lift the Vietnam-EU cooperation to a new height, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Nguyen Van Thao.

In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, the diplomat said the tour is to continue affirming Vietnam's foreign policy of being an active and responsible member of the international community. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to attend the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit and visit Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium from December 9 to 15 will extend a message of a strongly recovering Vietnam which is ready to cooperate with other countries to build a peaceful and stable environment, and uphold the role of multilateralism.

It is also expected to help Vietnam effectively take advantage of important resources from the European Union and member countries for its post-pandemic socio-economic recovery and development.Read full story

- A document on Vietnam’s participation in the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled has been handed over to Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Daren Tang for legal copyrighting.

Addressing the presentation, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, WTO, and other international organisations in Geneva, said the country’s participation in the Marrakesh Treaty marks an important milestone in reasonably balancing the protection of copyrights and interests of persons who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print disabled.Read full story

- An international conference was held in Hanoi on December 8 to mark 40 years since the adoption of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The hybrid event, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by 150 delegates from ministries, sectors, coastal localities, and representative bodies of ASEAN countries in Vietnam.Read full story

- Vietnamese defence and security officials and experts joined their counterparts from many other countries at a recent Berlin conference on security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Addressing the conference, Colonel Pham Ngoc Thanh from the Ministry of National Defence's Institute for Defence Strategy (IDS) highlighted the competition of world powers in the region and its impacts on security in the Indo-Pacific region.Read full story

- The 2022 International Circus Festival, which saw the participation of nine domestic and foreign troupes, closed on December 7 at Hanoi Central Circus after a week of brilliant performances.

The troupes came from six countries, namely Canada, Belarus, Laos, Cambodia, Egypt and host Vietnam.  Vietnam was represented by four troupes from Phuong Nam Art Theater, Vietnam Circus Federation, Hanoi Circus & Variety Theatre and Vietnam School of Circus and Variety Arts./.Read full story
