- Party General Secretary To Lam has urged Nhan Dan (People) newspaper to serve as a “vanguard”, a “shield,” and a sharp, agile “sensor station” for capturing, disseminating, and guiding public information.

In a keynote address at a ceremony in Hanoi marking the 75th anniversary of the newspaper’s first issue on March 11, General Secretary Lam highlighted its more than seven decades of evolution while maintaining its role as the Party’s sharp ideological weapon, an effective information and communication channel for Party committees and authorities at all levels, and a trusted platform for Party members and people. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has demanded developing a "silver economy" with harmonious cultural, political, economic and social progress that turns the burden of ageing into an economic development opportunity, while chairing the national conference on global "silver economy" trends and Vietnam’s policy response on March 11.

Vietnam officially entered the ageing population phase in 2011, with the number of elderly people rising rapidly. In 2024, the country had about 14.2 million people aged 60 and above, a figure projected to approach 18 million by 2030. The demographic shift presents both challenges and opportunities. While it places increasing pressure on the social welfare system, it also serves as a driving force for seeking a new growth model to achieve fast and sustainable development. Therefore, developing the "silver economy" is an inevitable trend, with older persons not regarded as a social burden but as a valuable resource for national development, said officials at the meeting. - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with UNDP Resident Representative Ramla Khalidi and WHO Representative in Vietnam Angela Pratt in Hanoi on March 11 to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in improving air pollution and addressing air quality in Vietnam.

Highlighting Vietnam’s close partnership with the two UN agencies, Deputy PM Ha highly appreciated their important contributions to the country’s development over the years, particularly in policy consultation, institutional reform and promoting sustainable development initiatives. Read full story

- Nearly 9.7 million voters in Ho Chi Minh City have been registered to take part in the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, according to the municipal Election Committee.

The committee convened its eighth meeting on March 11 under the presidency of Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the municipal People’s Council and head of the city’s Election Committee. Read full story

Khanh Hoa gears up for elections, facilitates voting for tourists

Thanh requested a thorough review of voter lists to ensure all eligible voters can exercise their rights. Polling teams were asked to establish advisory groups to assist voters when needed. He also stressed the need to make arrangements so that tourists visiting Nha Trang can cast their ballots in accordance with regulations.

Central Theoretical Council for 2026-2031 term established

The Party chief noted that in recent years the council has made significant contributions to the Party’s theoretical research and development, particularly in clarifying the path toward socialism in Vietnam and contributing to the preparation of major Party documents, including those presented at national Party congresses.

Tenth Vietnam–China border defence friendship exchange to feature innovations

Scheduled for March 18–19 in Quang Ninh province of Vietnam and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the exchange aims to realise high-level common perceptions between the two Parties and countries on deepening substantive defence cooperation, strengthening friendship and solidarity, and promoting practical collaboration among border protection forces, local authorities and people in border areas, thereby contributing to building a border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development.

Australian expert hails performance of 15th NA, People’s Councils at all levels

During the 15th term, NA deputies raised a number of critical issues with government ministers during question time regarding environmental protection, land administration, and food safety. Deputies were particularly engaged during discussions on amendments to the 2013 Constitution and the Law on the Organisation of Local Administration.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen defence cooperation

Vietnamese PM holds phone talks with Qatari counterpart

Emphasising Vietnam's opposition to the use of force against sovereign states, especially against civilian infrastructure that results in numerous casualties, PM Chinh called for a peaceful solution to the region based on respect for international law, the United Nations Charter, and ensuring the legitimate rights of all parties.
