- A grand ceremony was held in Hanoi on October 10 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the capital city’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2024).

Prominent at the event were Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, and others. Read full story

- Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and laid wreaths at his mausoleum on October 10, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the capital city’s Liberation Day.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting with President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Yoon Suk Yeol in Vientiane on October 10, on the occasion of their attendance at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings.

The Vietnamese government leader expressed his delight at the success of the phone talks between Party General Secretary and President To Lam and President Yoon Suk Yeol on September 3, 2024, which contributes to building close ties between Vietnamese and RoK top leaders and lays a solid foundation for comprehensive and effective cooperation between the two countries in the coming time. - Prime Ministers of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, Laos Sonexay Siphandone, and Cambodia Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet had a working breakfast and special exchange with representatives from the ASEAN Business Advisory Council ASEAN BAC) in Vientiane on October 10.

The PMs and the ASEAN BAC representatives sought solutions to strengthen cooperation and promote partnership among the three countries during their economic integration, focusing on fostering connectivity, including infrastructure and transport link to facilitate trade and investment flow, increasing economic recovery capacity, and promoting policies that enable the countries to deal with economic shocks and ensuring sustainable growth. - A delegation of high-ranking political officers of the Vietnam People's Army (People's Army), led by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Trinh Van Quyet, secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and head of the General Department of Politics, has paid a working visit to Cuba.

The visit from October 5-9 aimed to implement common perceptions of the senior leaders of the two countries and two armies, contributing to consolidating and deepening bilateral cooperation in defence, especially in the Party and political work in the army. Read full story

- The annual National Digital Transformation Day (October 10) has been actively responded to by all localities, contributing to strongly and rapidly promoting the digital transformation process and creating a new momentum for Vietnam’s development.

This year, the event is themed universalising digital infrastructure and innovating digital applications to develop the digital economy - new driving force for economic growth and labour productivity improvement. Read full story

- The Belgian Culture & Food Festival 2024 (B.Fest 2024), the fourth of its kind, will be held in the northern port city of Hai Phong from October 25-27.

Speaking at a press conference on October 9 about the event, Belgian Ambassador Karl Van den Bossche said this will be an opportunity for the Belgium community in Vietnam and local residents to share unique cultural values while promoting economic and tourism cooperation. Read full story

- Recovery in domestic consumption and production demand, along with strong development in tourism, have contributed positively to the growth of the trade and service sector in the first nine months of 2024, according to General Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Nguyen Thi Huong.

The office’s report shows that the total retail sales of consumer goods and services enjoyed an estimated year-on-year rise of 8.8% to 4.7 trillion VND (189.1 million USD) in the period. Read full story

- The retail prices of petrol products were adjusted up from 3pm on October 10 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance.

Specifically, the price of E5RON92 bio-fuel increased by 996 VND to no more than 19,846 VND (0.8 USD) per litre, while that of RON95-III rose by 1,258 VND to 21,061 VND per litre./. Read full story

Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Jesús Faria expressed deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam’s indomitable struggle for national independence. He described President Ho Chi Minh as an immortal symbol of 20th-century national liberation movements, whose legacy continues to inspire leftist parties, progressive movements, and peoples across Latin America, including Venezuela.

Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.

Deputy PM calls for substantive assessment of two-tier local administration operations

Cao Bang, China’s Baise city eye to boost all-around cooperation

Cao Bang province of Vietnam and Baise city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China are exploring a “red tourism” route linking Pac Bo and Meng Mo (China) to promote revolutionary tradition education and strengthen bilateral friendship. They are also stepping up cooperation in human resource development through training exchanges and efforts to improve workforce quality.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vientiane strengthen cooperation for 2026–2030

Under the MoU, the two sides will strengthen cooperation in politics – diplomacy, security – defence, legal and judicial affairs, economic affairs, education, culture and society, cooperation among mass organisations and socio-political organisations, and development support.
