Algiers (VNA) - The Algeria Press Service (APS) values its multifaceted cooperation with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), ranging from delegation exchanges and training to the sharing of experience and information products, stated APS Deputy Director General Bounnah Liazid.
In an interview granted to VNA correspondents in Algiers, Bounnah extended his congratulations to the VNA’s leadership, staff, reporters, and editors on the 80th founding anniversary of the agency (September 15, 1945 – 2025), and Vietnam's 80th National Day (September 2).
He noted that one of the most unforgettable milestones in the ties between the two agencies was the tragic event in 1974, when several Vietnamese and Algerian journalists lost their lives in a plane crash. To remember them, APS built a monument near its headquarters, he stressed, describing it as a profound symbol of solidarity and friendship between the two nations. He highlighted the significance of cooperation between the two agencies, saying that their partnership has helped ensure the flow of accurate and objective information, especially during sensitive periods.
The APS has provided Vietnam with reliable news on Algeria, its government, and the African region, while regarding the VNA as an authoritative source on Vietnam and Asia. In many cases, this cooperation has enabled both sides to prevent and counter false information and fake news.
In the context of digital transformation, the APS has identified modernisation as the inevitable path forward. It is implementing digitisation projects, from news editing to developing multimedia platforms. Currently, the agency publishes video news on the internet in Arabic and Tamazight and is preparing to expand to five other popular languages of English, French, Russian, Chinese, and Spanish.
Bounnah affirmed that the APS has the foundation to cooperate with the VNA in producing modern news products while preserving the traditional values of the two countries.
He spoke highly of the role played by the VNA, noting that its distinctive strength lies in serving as a vital bridge, providing official and reliable information for the Algerian press and public about Vietnam and Asia.
In the near future, the two news agencies should further strengthen bilateral cooperation, reflect each country’s perspectives at international forums, thus reinforcing their friendship and shared values, he stressed.
Looking ahead, the APS official said the APS and the VNA must continue to serve as a “special channel of diplomacy” by delivering accurate information that reflects the political commitments between the two countries.
Bounnah expressed his hope that media cooperation between the two agencies will continue to be enhanced, especially as the world faces new communication challenges./.
