HCM City (VNA) – The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with Sun Group, held the official launch ceremony for the An Tay integrated project complex in Tay Nam ward and Phu An ward on December 19.

Spanning a total area of 724 hectares, the complex carries an investment value of 51.16 trillion VND, equivalent to approximately 2 billion USD, and comprises three modern urban areas – East An Tay, North An Tay and West An Tay – alongside the An Tay General Port.

The project is among 234 key developments inaugurated, launched or kick-started nationwide to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the National Resistance Day and welcome the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Located in Tay Nam ward and Phu An ward with a total area of 724 hectares, the project is set to form a modern urban – port hub, seamlessly connecting key transport infrastructure while creating a new living space for nearly 50,000 residents of HCM City. The complex is expected to emerge as a new growth engine for the southern mega-city.

Boasting a rare strategic location at the convergence of major road – rail – waterway corridors, the An Tay integrated project complex is regarded as a golden focal point of northern HCM City, serving as a gateway connecting the city with the former Binh Duong area and neighbouring provinces. Ring Road 4, scheduled for completion in 2026, will form a connective arc linking Dong Nai, HCM City and Long An. In parallel, Provincial Road DT.744 is being upgraded, while an urban rail line aligned with Ring Road 4 is planned to connect directly to the New City Administrative Centre. Notably, the Saigon River waterway running through the area not only unlocks logistics potential but also enables the development of distinctive river-based tourism, connecting HCM City with Long An and Tay Ninh, including Dau Tieng Lake.

Within the overall An Tay integrated project complex, the North An Tay Urban Area covers 70 hectares with an investment of approximately 423 million USD, featuring contemporary architectural highlights. A commercial and service complex rising up to 40 storeys is expected to redefine the local skyline while integrating offices, shopping malls, restaurants and premium services. A central park cluster comprising two symmetrical parks along the DH.609 axis forms a distinctive green core where nature and urban life converge, supported by comprehensive education, healthcare and cultural facilities.

Adjacent to this is the East An Tay Urban Area, spanning nearly 288.84 hectares with an investment of around 516 million USD. The project is oriented toward concentrated resettlement land and bears the identity of an eco-urban development. With more than 61 hectares of greenery accounting for 21% of the area, including a 24-hectare central park envisioned as the “green heart” of the entire zone, the project emphasises balance between development and environmental preservation. A diverse range of housing types, from semi-detached and quad villas for high-end residents to commercial townhouses and social housing, reflects a comprehensive development vision addressing varied housing needs.

The West An Tay Urban Area, covering 268 hectares with an investment of 793 million USD, enjoys the advantage of direct frontage along the Saigon River. A future 30-hectare riverside park stretching along the river will serve as both a scenic highlight and a tranquil living space where residents reconnect with nature. The area is master-planned with nearly 90 hectares allocated for residential development, over 28 hectares for commercial and service functions, and 6 hectares of water surface, promising a sustainable living environment.

A key economic driver of the entire complex is the An Tay General Port. Covering 97.54 hectares with an investment of nearly 214 million USD, the port is designed with three complementary functional zones. The 38.34-hectare cargo port, with a capacity of 7 million tonnes per year, is set to become a modern logistics hub serving the growing import–export demand of regional industrial parks. Meanwhile, the 41.6-hectare passenger port, with an initial capacity of 100,000 passengers and a long-term target of 200,000 passengers per year, is envisioned not only as a transit point but also as a gateway for river tourism – one of the southern region’s distinctive strengths.

With its rare strategic position, once operational, the An Tay General Port will connect inland waterway transport routes along the Saigon River, Dong Nai River and Dau Tieng Lake, forming an integrated trade network that enhances interregional economic linkages and elevates HCM City’s standing on the regional logistics map.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Council, stated: “The high-end urban – tourism – service complex combined with a marina and logistics facilities, invested by Sun Group, is a large-scale project with a total investment of over 51 trillion VND (2 billion USD). It is being implemented at a strategically significant location with multimodal connectivity – linking waterways, road transport and future urban rail systems – connecting key economic regions of HCM City, Tay Ninh and Long An. The project is expected to form a new growth pole, promote the development of high-quality services, logistics and tourism, create strong spillover effects, and make positive contributions to GDP growth, budget revenue expansion and job creation.”

As one of the largest urban project clusters launched in northern HCM City, the An Tay integrated project complex is expected to create a modern living environment for city residents. In the long term, this “port city” area is projected to generate tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, make significant contributions to the state budget, and drive socio-economic development for Vietnam’s largest metropolis in line with a service–commerce–tourism-oriented growth model inspired by leading global port cities./.

Japan, UNICEF join hands to strengthen children’s resilience to natural disasters, climate change

Natural disasters in Vietnam have been increasing in both frequency and intensity. Typhoon No.3 in 2024 (Yagi), along with severe floods, inundation and landslides in 2025, caused significant human and material losses. This underscores the need for targeted and sustainable investments in disaster risk reduction and early warning, particularly for children and vulnerable communities.
