An Giang: Work on second phase of Sao Mai Solar Power Plants starts

An Giang (VNA) - Construction of the second phase of the Sao Mai Solar Power Plant in Tinh Bien district, in the Mekong Delta’s An Giang province, got underway on September 15, with a capacity of 106 MWp and investment of over 3 trillion VND (129.5 million USD).

Invested by the Sao Mai Group and constructed by Sterling Wilson - India’s leading group in renewable energy - the Sao Mai Solar Power Plant has been included in the adjusted Power Planning VII.

Covering 275 ha, the two-phase project has total investment of nearly 6 trillion VND and a capacity of 210 MWp.

Truong Vinh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Sao Mai Group, said the first phase was put into operation in July 2019 after four months of construction and has contributed significantly to socio-economic development and job creation in the border district of Tinh Bien.

More than 300,000 solar panels will be installed in the second phase, which is scheduled to commercially produce electricity before the end of this year, he said.

In his remarks, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh highlighted An Giang’s potential in solar power and the project’s significance for local socio-economic development.

He urged the investor to create favourable conditions for local residents to find stable jobs, contributing to ensuring social welfare in project areas./.
