Exports of aquatic products reached 320 million USD in January, up 2.3 percent over the same period last year, the General Fishery Department reported.

The US remained Vietnam’s largest aquatic products importer, followed by Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Germany and Spain.

Industry insiders said that Vietnam is hopeful of earning a record high of 5 billion USD from the export of aquatic products this year as world demand keep growing and supplies in several countries are forecast to decline.

The fishery sector is pouring more investment into producing exports, especially such key products as shrimp, tra fish (Pangasius), tuna and molluscs.

The industry is also improving technology and tightening supervision of quality and hygiene of aquatic products./.
