ASEAN Para Games 13: Vietnam celebrates swimming gold, earns more weightlifting medals

Vietnam enjoyed another successful day at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand on January 23, highlighted by a record-breaking gold medal from swimmer Vi Thi Hang and additional podium finishes in weightlifting.

Bangkok (VNA) - Vietnam enjoyed another successful day at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand on January 23, highlighted by a record-breaking gold medal from swimmer Vi Thi Hang and additional podium finishes in weightlifting.

In the swimming events, Vi Thi Hang delivered an outstanding performance to win the gold medal in the women’s 100m backstroke (S6–S7), clocking 1 minute 43.20 seconds to set a new Games record. Thailand’s Phimsan Nathee and Chanin Patcharin finished second and third with times of 2:01.83 and 2:02.37, respectively.

The victory marked Vi Thi Hang’s second gold medal at this Games, following her triumph in the women’s 50m backstroke (S6–S7) in the opening day.

Swimming continues to be a key medal source for the Vietnam para sports delegation at the regional event.

Vietnam also added to its medal tally in para weightlifting in the third day of competition in Nakhon Ratchasima. Competing against strong rivals from host Thailand and defending regional champion Indonesia, Tran Thi Chau claimed the silver medal in the women’s 67kg category with a lift of 93kg, while Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy secured the bronze medal in the women’s 61kg class after lifting 85kg./.

ASEAN Para Games 13: Vietnam adds athletics gold

After three days of competition, Vietnam’s para athletics team has won a total of 22 medals, including five golds, 11 silvers, and six bronzes, reinforcing its important role in the delegation’s overall success at the ASEAN Para Games 13.

Tet gifts, chung cake made for disadvantaged people

Beyond its charitable significance, the programme also aims to introduce domestic and international visitors to the unique cultural values of Vietnam’s traditional Tet, while raising public awareness, particularly among younger generations, of the responsibility to preserve and promote the cultural identities of Vietnam’s ethnic groups.
