The 21 st ASEAN Summit and related summits closed in Phnom Penh on November 20 with Cambodia ’s transfer of the rotating ASEAN Chair to Brunei.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Sen of the host country stressed ASEAN member countries’ tireless contributions to the summits in order to make ASEAN a strong regional grouping under the criteria of “One Community, One Destiny”.
He said that the issuance of “Phnom Penh Declaration” and the Phnom Penh Action Programme” during 2012 - the year Cambodia served as the ASEAN Chair, are important and fundamental documents that represent a determination to consolidate peace, security, stability, solidarity, prosperity and development in the region as well as putting forth top priority measures towards an ASEAN Community by 2015.
Summing up achievements recorded in the fields of politics-security, economics, and socio-culture, Hun Sen said that the roadmap to the ASEAN Community in 2015 will be realised.
According to the Cambodian PM, the ASEAN and Chinese leaders adopted a Joint Statement on the 10th Anniversary of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), emphasising the importance of the DOC and the full implementation of the document’s principles and regulations for peace, stability and security in the East Sea .
After receiving the ASEAN Chair from Cambodia, the King of Brunei, Hasanal Bolkiah, delivered a speech reflecting Brunei’s determination to fulfill its tasks in 2013./.
