Singapore blocks websites spreading misinformation

Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore has blocked access to 10 websites linked to foreign entities suspected of conducting hostile misinformation campaigns targeting the country.

This action comes as Singapore prepares for its election next year.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, these websites have been observed to masquerade as Singapore websites by spoofing or using terms associated with the country in their domain name, while incorporating familiar local features and visuals.

They also carried content on Singapore, some of which were generated by artificial intelligence (AI), it said in a joint press release.

The tactics used by malicious foreign actors, including the building of websites which can attract a local following, that may subsequently be used as platforms to disseminate false information.

The ministry stated that blocking access to these sites is for public interest./.
