During the course of the meeting, participants reviewed the latest scientific research reports in the study field, which focus on evaluation of and solutions to the destructive impacts of population growths and the fast speed of urbanisation on coastal ecology.
Parcipating experts exchanged information about the current activities in coastal marine science in Asian countries and the Southeast Asia region, the conditions of coastal ecology and effects of climate change on coastal areas.
They also put forward suggestions and solutions to deal with the growing imbalance between industrial development and protection of environment in general and of coastal environment in particular.
The meeting is part of a bilateral cooperation project on coastal marine science between the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST)./.
