Bac Giang (VNA) - With flexible and creative approaches, the northern province of Bac Giang has successfully completed its 2024–2025 programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses ahead of schedule, handing over a total of 2,296 homes to poor, near-poor, disadvantaged households, and policy beneficiary families, fulfilling 100% of its target.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang province, in 2024, the province approved support for the construction and repair of 1,498 houses, with a total value of approximately 86 billion VND (3.29 million USD). Funding was mobilised through socialised sources. By December 31, 2024, the province had completed and handed over all approved houses.

In 2025, the funding for the housing programme was sourced from 5% savings in regular expenditures in 2024. Bac Giang approved the construction and repair of 798 additional homes, including 221 for people with meritorious service to the revolution, 473 for poor and near-poor households, 62 for ethnic minority households in especially difficult areas, and 42 under the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction for 2021–2025. By June 2025, all 798 homes had been handed over to the families, with a total cost of over 94 billion VND, completing the target ahead of the Government’s deadline.

In addition to the planned houses, localities also mobilised resources to build nearly 472 “Great solidarity” houses through other socialised sources. Notable contributions include the provincial police force and the provincial Military Command.

Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Viet Oanh said despite the programme’s successful completion, the temporary and dilapidated housing issue continues to arise. In many cases, households remain ineligible for support due to difficulties related to land, planning, and legal documents. Therefore, the eradication of substandard houses must remain a long-term, ongoing mission, closely linked to improving quality of life and promoting sustainable social welfare./.
