Dong Nai (VNA) – The southern province of Dong Nai fulfilled its target of doing away with temporary and dilapidated houses six months ahead of the Government’s deadline, heard a conference held in the locality on June 27.
Over the past three months, the province completed the construction of 579 houses, beating the timeline set by the provincial steering committee for eliminating substandard houses by 45 days.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Tan Duc highlighted that the harmonious implementation of the makeshift housing eradication initiative and the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction is a fundamental solution to delivering on the province’s socio-economic development targets, particularly in remote areas and those inhabited by ethnic minority groups.
The 2026–2030 period, he said, will pose new challenges for poverty reduction and social welfare, stating that with local administration restructuring and streamlining underway, Duc called for bold innovation in leadership, execution methods, and coordination mechanisms for the programmes.
He urged departments, agencies, and local authorities to maintain their commitment to sustainable poverty reduction and housing support as an important, ongoing, long-term political mission. He stressed the need for tight integration with socio-economic development programmes, new-style rural area building movement, and civilised urban development projects.
Under the “for the poor – leaving no one behind” movement and the national poverty reduction programme carried out from 2021 to 2024, nearly 1,100 houses were built or renovated for disadvantaged households.
Around 132,000 free health insurance cards were issued to the poor, while nearly 10,000 families accessed concessional loans averaging over 55 million VND (over 2,100 USD) each. More than 174,000 labourers from poor and near-poor households were provided with stable employment./.
