Dong Thap targets zero makeshift homes, eradication of poverty

After more than three months, Dong Thap completed the construction and repair of 2,159 houses, fulfilling 100% of its plan.

Dong Thap (VNA) – The Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in the Mekong Delta Province of Dong Thap on June 26 held a conference to review the implementation of the housing support programme so far this year.

Accordingly, after more than three months, Dong Thap completed the construction and repair of 2,159 houses, fulfilling 100% of its plan. These include 605 houses for people with meritorious service to the revolution and 1,554 for poor and near-poor families. The total cost exceeded 189 billion VND (7.23 million USD), with over 84 billion VND mobilised from social resources, businesses, and community contributions.

Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Head of the Steering Committee, said the province has completed all targets set for 2025 on schedule and with ensured quality.

He urged localities to continue providing care and support to beneficiary households to help them stabilise their lives and improve their economic conditions, working towards the broader goal of eradicating poverty in Dong Thap.

Following the completion of this programme, local authorities are encouraged to extend support to other disadvantaged groups who also face housing difficulties but were not covered under the current plan.

On this occasion, the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to various collectives and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the programme./.

The inspection revealed that passenger P.T.H. had concealed 10 pieces of the metal, weighing about 5 kg, inside her bra and underwear.
