Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued an official dispatch urging coordinated efforts to repair infrastructure, restore production and trade, and stabilise residents' lives following storms and floods in the central region.
To swiftly return to normal production and daily activities after the historic disasters, the PM directed the secretaries of the municipal and provincial Party Committees, along with the chairpersons of the People’s Committees of Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Lam Dong, continue to focus their direction on completing the “Quang Trung Campaign” - an initiative aimed at providing rapid housing support for flood victims - in accordance with his instructions.
The chairpersons must urgently compile comprehensive and accurate assessments of damage to shared infrastructure, as well as healthcare, education, transport and irrigation facilities requiring repair. They must estimate funding needs for infrastructure and production restoration, especially in agriculture; evaluate local budget capabilities and request government assistance where necessary.
These reports must be submitted to the PM by December 24. Any provincial People’s Committees missing the deadline will face accountability to the Government leader.
Other specific tasks were also assigned to relevant ministries, the Government Inspectorate and the Government Office.
From late October to early December, localities stretching from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong endured consecutive natural disasters triggering landslides and record flooding. These resulted in heavy losses of life, property, and infrastructure, particularly in transport, irrigation, education, health care, electricity, water supply, and telecommunications, seriously disrupting production, trade, and livelihoods.
As of December 21, repairs had been completed on more than 33,200 damaged houses (over 95%, with full completion expected by December 31, 2025), while 480 houses that collapsed or were swept away by floods have been rebuilt (over 29%, with full completion expected by January 31, 2026). Environmental cleanup, healthcare, education, transport, production and trade activities have been progressively resumed./.
