Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Police chief Neth Sa Voeun said 20,000 police officers will be mobilised to ensure security for the commune-ward level election in 2017.

The police chief made the announcement at a meeting on August 25 on protecting the process of registration of voters for 2016 and examining the list of registered voters as well as the registration of voters at local and national levels from 2016-2019.

Neth Sa Voeun said 5,200 police officers will be deployed at 1,633 points in 25 provinces and cities nationwide during the time voters register for the new list.

Cambodian people will put their name on the voter list to prepare for the communal level election on June 4, 2017, and the national election in 2018.

The registration process will take place from September 1 to November 29.

With the assistance from the European Union, Cambodia’s National Election Committee will implement online registration for the first time.-VNA
