Cambodia currently has 513,759 enterprises, an 11 percent rise from 463,360 firms in 2011, according to the 2014 Cambodia Intercensal Economic Survey (CIES).
The firms are employing as many as 1.87 million labourers, it said.
Its capital, Phnom Penh, has 97,200 companies within its boundaries, followed by Kampong Cham with 54,231, Kandal with 38,679, Siem Reap with 37,622, and Takeo with 32,780.
The number of enterprises employing over 100 employees rose 14 percent from 2011, according to the survey, attributed to businesses shifting their investments to the agriculture, industry and service sectors.
Cambodian Minister of Planning Chhay Than held that the survey data will serve policymaking as well as the design of national and local economic development plans, especially in strengthening Cambodian small- and medium-sized enterprises.
