Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian journalists have believed that on the firm foundation of the traditional friendship and solidarity, the relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam will continue to thrive in the future.
In an interview granted to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Phnom Penh ahead of the upcoming 40th anniversary of Cambodia’s victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime (January 7, 1979-2019), journalist Keo Chandara, Deputy General Director of the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) – Cambodia’s news agency, affirmed the close attachment between the two Parties, States and peoples.
Cambodia and Vietnam have always been friendly neighbours, creating current fine achievements in the bilateral ties, he said.
Teav Sarak Mony, Editor-in-chief of Rasmei Kampuchea (Light of Cambodia), said since 1979, the Cambodia-Vietnam relations have developed positively, with their increased mutual support. Cambodia and Vietnam have worked together to build their nations and prevent the return of the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.
At present, the two countries have always united and supported each other within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as helped each other in economic development.
“The Cambodia-Vietnam relationship is really special as the two countries can assist each other for mutual development”, he stressed.
On December 19, at a meeting with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong during his leisure trip to Vietnam, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his pleasure with the continuously developing relations between Vietnam and Cambodia over the past more than 50 years.
The two countries have enhanced collaboration in all fields, with the exchange of many delegations and increasing cooperation on regional and international forums, including ASEAN, he said.
The King noted that Vietnam is a large friend and close neighbour of the Cambodian people, who never forget the great and valuable assistance of the Vietnamese Government and people given to them in every circumstance.
He affirmed to continue following his father’s sound policy of fostering the solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two nations.-VNA
