Can Tho (VNA) - Visiting Mayor of the Republic of Korea’s Jinju city Jo Kyoo-il held a working session with Chairman of the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee Truong Canh Tuyen on November 19 to explore deeper ties in culture, tourism and business connectivity.
Tuyen briefed the delegation on Can Tho’s potential and strategic position following recent administrative merger. As the key economic engine of the Mekong Delta, the city now spans about 6,360 sq.km with a population of roughly 4.2 million, making it the region’s largest locality in both population and land area.
Can Tho distinguishes itself with rich cultural diversity and a lineup of signature festivals, including annual Vietnam-RoK cultural exchanges. The city will host the Esports Championships Asia (ECA) 2025, the first of its kind in Vietnam, welcoming over 100 athletes from seven countries and territories, including the RoK, China, Japan, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, he said.
The host wished that both cities would further bolster all-around cooperation, potentially by establishing a friendship relationship and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share expertise in areas of mutual strengths, while also stepping up cultural exchanges, tourism cooperation and business linkages. Closer ties, he said, would spur socio-economic development in both localities.
Mayor Jo, in reply, was delighted that Jinju would be competing in the Can Tho-hosted ECA event starting on November 20, and wished the tournament a success. He expressed interest in learning from Can Tho’s organisational experience ahead of Jinju hosting the championships in 2026, extended an invitation for Can Tho representatives to attend next year’s edition, and wished to broaden cultural and tourism exchanges.
On this occasion, the two sides signed a MoU on cooperation in culture, tourism and business connectivity./.
