Gia Lai (VNA) – The upgraded section of National Road 19 between the central province of Binh Dinh and the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai opened to traffic on January 15.

The Defence Ministry’s Corporation No. 36 upgraded the 56.7-km section over two years at a cost of 2 trillion VND (89.2 million USD) under the build-operate-transfer format.

It is 12 to 15 metres wide and allows vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km per hour – 60 km per hour in residential areas.

National Road 19 is 240 km long from Binh Dinh’s Quy Nhon Port to Gia Lai’s Le Thanh Border Gate, which is contiguous to Cambodia.

It is an artery linking the Central Highlands and the central coast of Vietnam, and also plays an important role in boosting the border connectivity among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.-VNA
