Singapore announced on January 31 that it would stop issuing visas to people holding Chinese passports and deny entry to foreigners who had visited China in the past 14 days, in a bid to counter the spread of novel coronavirus.

Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore announced on January 31 that it would stop issuingvisas to people holding Chinese passports and deny entry to foreigners who hadvisited China in the past 14 days, in a bid to counter the spread of novelcoronavirus.

The ban willtake effect on February 1.

Citizens ofSingapore and long-time passport holders who have been to China will be able tocome into the city state.

Speaking to themedia, Singaporean Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong said thegovernment has decided to widen travel restrictions to all new visitors.

Singapore hasso far recorded 13 infection cases, all from China’s Wuhan, the epicenter ofthe outbreak.

The same day,Japan advised its citizens in China to consider returning home and limitedtravelling in Wuhan.

Its ForeignMinistry also urged Japanese citizens to avoid unnecessary trips to China./.
