DHL Supply Chain, a company that provides contract logistics solutions, announced on May 16 that it will expand its business operations in Vietnam with an investment of 10 million EUR (13 million USD) in facilities and IT solutions.

Most of the investment will cover new facilities, a transport fleet and IT systems for warehousing and transportation management.

The company also expects to increase its staff by at least 170 percent, to 2,200 from the current 800 by 2015.

Its warehouse space in Vietnam will increase from the current 91,000 sq.m to over 141,000 sq.m, and the transport fleet will expand by over 160 percent to more than 100 vehicles within two years.

The company has also announced that its second 10,000-sq.m built-to-suit distribution centre, in the northern province of Bac Ninh, is due for completion in the third quarter.

With these new investments, the company hopes to strengthen its position, especially in the retail, consumer, technology and automotive sectors, according to Jan Willem Winkelhuijzen, DHL's manager in Vietnam.-VNA
