Cuban ambassador honoured with friendship insignia

Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz has been honoured with the insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” for his contributions to cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Hanoi (VNA) – CubanAmbassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz has been honoured with the insignia“For Peace and Friendship among Nations” for his contributions to cooperationand friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

The honour was presented by VicePresident and Secretary General of the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong at a ceremony in Hanoi on September 13.

In his remarks, Phong hailed AmbassadorHerminio Lopez Diaz’s contributions to the success of high-level visits betweenthe two countries. 

The ambassador has also paid dueattention to strengthening bilateral collaboration in economy, culture andhealth care, as well as partnerships between businesses and cultural-socialorganisations of the two countries.

His tenure in Vietnam witnessed majorevents marking the bilateral ties, with the most noteworthy being activitiescelebrating the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic ties (December 2,1960), the seventh Asia-Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba inHanoi (August 2015) and the 40th anniversary of President FidelCastro’s visit to Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri (1973-2013), he said.

For his part, Herminio Lopez Diaz said theinsignia demonstrates the warm feeling of the VUFO, the Vietnam-Cuba FriendshipAssociation and Vietnamese people towards him and Cuban people in general.

He pledged to continue to work for thefruitful friendship and solidarity between the two countries. -VNA
